Update: St. Vrain River Crossing
All photography by John Johnson
The construction on the bridge project continues with the full span now installed into the sections. We are only slightly behind schedule and should be able to debut the project to the public operational in the Longmont Terminal and Northern model railroad this Fall at the November TCA venue in Loveland. We need to complete the spacer sections on the other side of the railroad that will also serve a switching points on the layout including a planned feed mill and sugar beet facility.
John ran a test train over the entire span 3 weeks ago with full success.
The wood trestle was completed in July complete with fire shields and NBW & J bolt details.
Concrete piers were fabricated using wood with resin castings
John is very happy as his portion of the project is nearing completion.
The scenery base was complete as of last week with preparations for display at the National Narrow Gauge Convention down in Denver at the end of the month. We are very excited about this project and it has been a long year with this under construction. While building the St. Vrain River Crossing section we bought a trailer and built a new cart system for movement the railroad. 2017 was a productive year for us.
Those of you coming to the National Narrow Gauge Convention at the end of this month please do stop by, we look forward to meeting you!
